Keyboard Identification and Removal

How To Remove Keyboard

  • The top panel should pry off, gently use a screwdriver from the keyboard side, pry up on the panel.
  • DO NOT Break. It should pry off but do not force.
  • Under this panel you will find a row of 4 screws. Use a small #1 philips screw driver.
  • The keyboard will now be free to lift, but the ribbon cable is still attached.
  • Tilt the keyboard towards you laying it down so you are able to remove the ribbon cable.
  • The ribbon cable should pull out, but look closely first to see if there is any type of a clamp holding it in place.

Reinstall

  • Installation is just the opposite but... watch for a couple of things that you would not have seen when removing.
  • There are four tabs at the bottom of the keyboard, make sure they are all in their holes.
  • Make sure the ribbon cable is seated. These ribbon cables can be a bugger to put back in. Take your time and make sure it is seated properly. Don't break it.
  • Before putting the panel back on, test the keyboard. If it did not seat, you will be typing and then it will stop and then work again.

Just to be safe:

  • Power off the computer when ever you are working with the ribbon cable. No Exceptions
  • When prying up the panel place a cloth over the keyboard so you don't scratch it.
  • Press the ribbon cable in straight, don't cheat and try and rock it in, you will bend it.
